Bread baskets are perfect for holding fresh-baked rolls, croissants, breadsticks, baguettes or bagels. They can also hold fruit, pretzels, or just about anything you can fit in them. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and are made to endure the constant stress and use of a commercial restaurant or buffet environment. When choosing a bread basket, consider the material type, shape and size. Rattan or wicker baskets are traditionally the most popular choices for holding bread items. Keep in mind that if you choose to serve food in a wicker basket, you must use cloth or paper to line the basket. This is because the wicker models cannot be put through a dishwasher or cleaned with harsh sanitizers, so they cannot be used as a food contact surface in a restaurant. Other popular choices for bread baskets include wire baskets, plastic faux-weave models, and wrought iron baskets. Some of these materials can actually be put in a commercial warewasher, making them perfect for restaurants or catering operations that want to put food directly in the basket. However, adding a cloth liner to the basket is not just more sanitary, it also lends it a charming look.
